Farrer Year 7 Opportunity Hub

Farrer Year 7 students welcomed Sam, Matty, and Latrell from the Tamworth Local Aboriginal Land Council’s Opportunity Hub, who conducted a story telling program at the school. During this program, the students were educated on how Aboriginal paintings and carvings convey narratives and the significance of such Art. To establish a connection with country and the surrounding environment, each student had the opportunity to engage in Dadirri (deep listening) outside.

Thanks to a generous donation from the school’s PT&F, the boys were able to acquire Possum skins to depict their stories. Additionally, the students gained knowledge about the importance of possum skins, their traditional uses, and their warmth value. The “Possum Skin” program was implemented in both the HSIE and Art facilities, and special thanks go to the teachers involved, particularly Mr Harvey (HSIE) and Miss Grills (Art).
