Sam Hannan, a 2018 Year 12 student, has been offered a place at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, or ‘The Con’ as it is affectionately known, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious music schools in Australia.
To achieve a place at ‘The Con’, Sam had to perform a 20 minute music audition and was notified in December that he was successful in obtaining a place.
Sam has decided to defer for a year as he is applying to McGill University in Montreal, Canada for a position. If successful Sam will move to Montreal in July to get settled, before commencing a four year course in Bachelor of Music. When asked why he chose McGill University Sam said ‘It’s a cool location, I have some extended family there and I am looking forward to new experiences.’
Sam has always had an interest in music, starting to learn the trumpet in Year 4 and by Year 10 his love was the tuba. He is a dedicated and committed music student who attributed much of his success to Mr Mead the Farrer music teacher. Sam said ‘Mr Mead helped me to develop my musical ability, giving me the support and guidance I needed to keep progressing to a very high standard and I thank him for his inspirational guidance’. Mr Mead was a major factor in Sam’s preparation for his HSC performance and so it comes as no surprise that Sam obtained a Band 6 in HSC Music.
Farrer wishes Sam the very best in his future endeavors. Good luck Sam and stay in contact.
