Farrer’s Year 12 students have shaved off their locks in support of the World’s Greatest Shave.
This has become an annual event on the school calendar for Year 12 Farrer students, who are more than willing to lose their locks for this tremendous cause. Farrer students have been participating in the Shave for over a decade, with 2019 being the first year all of the Year 12 cohort shaved their heads.
On the day, 20th February, the action started with a lunchtime auction when students could bid to ‘shave a head’. A big thanks to the Auctioneer, Old Boy Hamish Fauchon, who was honoured to be asked to run the auction. Hamish had started at Farrer with this year group but left in 2017 to pursue a career with Ruralco Property Davidson Cameron – Tamworth.
Seven brave individuals went under the hammer, these included: -
Teachers - Mr Luke Maloy, Mr James Harvey & Mrs Amanda Watson.
Students – Dylan Ciprian, Ben Ashley, Cooper Dixon & Darcy Hooper who had his chest waxed. All auctioned individuals made fantastic money, with the ‘hammer falling’ on Dylan Ciprian for $1050, and the whole school got behind the auction with hands shooting up everywhere.
Onto the shave itself there were some weird and wacky hair styles as the locks came off. We would like to thank the local hairdresser – Hair Affair, who volunteered their time to come and shave our students & staff.
Farrer Year 12 students traditionally participate in numerous fundraising ventures in their senior year and over the last decade have raised in excess of $110,000 for organisations such as the Leukaemia Foundation and the John Hunter Hospital. The 2019 Year 12 cohort have raised in excess of $14,000 with online money still to be added to the grand total.
This is one of the many ways that Farrer students give back to the community.
