Under 14s Coleman Shield Cricket

At Farrer, students are encouraged to showcase the events they participate in to the entire school community. Here is a retelling of the 14s Coleman Shield Cricket conveyed by Year 9 students Lachlan Mason and Lachlan Swain, who passionately and enthusiastically shared their victory in March at the school assembly.

Kicking off on Friday 8th March, we had the under 14s Coleman Shield Cricket team at an early start of 5:30am. Once everyone arrived, we packed the bus and were set to go with a 3 1/2 hour trip to Gulargambone. With myself winning the toss and choosing to bat, we had out first few batsmen pad up. With the game plan discussed and everyone ready, the game was underway. Lachie Swain and Daniel Williams walked onto the field. A bit of a rough start with Swainy and Daniel gone within the first 5 overs, However the batting steadied with myself and Curtis Parkinson putting on a good partnership to get us back in the game. After Curtis was dismissed for 36 and myself for 52, Harry Hickey and Mitch Forwood finished our innings off strong with Harry getting a quick 22. Leaving our final score at 7-167 after 40 overs [presented by Lachlan Mason].

We walked out as the innings started back up while banter flowed through the field. Daniel and Mitch opened the bowling, after no luck, we switched the bowlers and had Ollie Sawyer and Harry Hickey come on to try and grab a wicket. In one the the last overs before drinks, Ollie grabbed a wicket which broke the partnership. Lachie and Toby then came in at second charge, Lachie took 3 wickets and broke into the middle order batters. At fourth change, we brought on Darcy Bell and he did not disappoint! Darcy ripped through the batsmen finishing with 5 wickets and bowling them out in the 36th over for 89 runs! We shook hands with the opposition and made our journey back to school. Thank you to the Fec for providing us with food, Mr Gale for driving us down and My Emsley for coaching [presented by Lachlan Swain].
