David Olrich

Head Teacher (Relieving) HSIE

Mr David Olrich began his career at Farrer in 2001 after graduating from Newcastle University with a Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts (Secondary Social Science) (Hons). 

In 2005, Mr Olrich became Year coordinator and followed this group through to their completion of Year 12 in 2010. From 2006-2014 he was Head Teacher Welfare, continuing his enthusiasm for student wellbeing. He made a recent return to student wellbeing when he shared the year coordinator role for the final two years of the class of 2021 with Mrs Rebekah O’Neill.

Mr Olrich’s teaching includes extensive HSC experience in Business Studies, Geography and Modern History, and he has been involved in teaching program design and implementation for Year 7-10 Geography and History. His focus on experience-based learning has been a feature of his classes. Mr Olrich is a member of the Quality Teaching Rounds team that is active in developing best practice teaching strategies within the school. 

Mr Olrich’s passion for sport is reflected in his coaching of football, rugby league, rugby union and cricket. His keen interest in cricket has seen him involved with 1st XI since 2004, assuming the position of coach in 2013 after the retirement of Mr John Kilborn. Mr Olrich coached Farrer to its first CHS State Cricket title in 2023.

Mr Olrich is also passionate about environmental sustainability and community service. Since 2010 he has coordinated The World’s Greatest Shave events at Farrer, raising over $320,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation in the process.
