3.4 Health and Medications

The health and wellbeing of boarding students at Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School is a high priority for the school. To facilitate good health care, our Health Centre is staffed 24/7 during school terms, and appointments with health professionals (and transport to/from medical appointments) are facilitated.

3.4.1 Health Centre

Nurses (Matrons) staff the Health Centre from 7:00am until 11:00pm, and are on call overnight. They will notify parents immediately of serious medical problems.

Appointments for consultations with doctors, dentists, optometrists, physiotherapists and other health care providers will be coordinated by the Matron on duty at the Health Centre. These appointments will be made outside school hours when possible. For specialist appointments, parents are encouraged to attend with their son to communicate any ongoing care requirements to the Health centre staff.

Matron will contact parents if we believe it is necessary to make a medical appointment. Parent/Guardian consent to the arrangements will be taken as a guarantee to meet charges by a Doctor or Pharmacy, who will arrange for the account to be sent to the student’s home address.

The Health Centre has the capacity to care for your son short term in the event he presents to the Health Centre during the night, however, at times it will be necessary for parents to arrange collection of their son as soon as possible.

The Health Centre can be contacted on (02) 6764 8615or via it's own email address.

3.4.2 Medications

All students requiring scheduled prescription medication must notify the School by completing the Student Prescribed Medication Administration Authority (P.12) available in the Form Bank.

Any medications (including Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, cold and flu etc) are to be left at the Health Centre and must not be kept in the dormitories. Regular medications will be returned to students at the end of each term and leave weekends. If a medication changes during the term, please notify the Health Centre via email.

For Prescriptions, we use Terry White Pharmacy at Calala who dispense and deliver medications to the school as required. Terry White Pharmacy also provides a blister packing service and for boys on regular medications, it is our preference that your son’s medication is dispensed this way. For further information on blister packing please contact the Health Centre.

Medicare card and concession card details must be kept updated at all times, parents are required to notify Matron when they receive updated details. This is essential for any medical appointment.
